A recent, informal poll by the World Aviation Festival found that when asked, ‘If all options were available, what would be your preferred method of contacting an airline for any issues?’ the majority of respondents prioritised using mobile applications over websites, WhatsApp, and even phone calls. With passengers putting trust in mobile apps, innovation is essential and where better to showcase the industry’s most promising apps than the World Aviation Festival’s Battle of the Airline Apps final.

The competition will decide which airline app is leading the way in offering a seamless, frictionless, and simple passenger experience, and, with excitement building, the first three finalists for the Battle of the Airline Apps competition have been announced today.

Our first three 2024 finalists are: Air India, Emirates, and Lufthansa Group.

In previous years, the Battle has seen some ground breaking contestants with easyJet (2019) and United (2023) each taking home the crown. Last year, Grant Milstead, VP Digital Technology wowed judges, showcasing the app’s inbuilt trip planner accessible for all the family, advanced bag tagging technology, extreme agility, and even launched a new feature live on stage.

This year, the judging criteria for the competition are as critical as ever and finalists will not be able to just rely on their apps doing the talking. Each contestant will also be marked on the ‘power of the presentation’ ensuring the final will be packed with compelling, memorable, and exciting five-minute pitches. See the full criteria:

  • User experience
  • Managing the Booking
  • Ancillary Options
  • Disruption Management
  • Passenger Information
  • Power of the presentation

All World Aviation Festival attendees are encouraged to come along to watch the finalists battle it out but only one can be crowned the winner. Join us at 3pm, 10th October on the main stage!
