From today, Flying Blue members can earn air miles through booking an Uber ride. The Air France-KLM Group loyalty programme, Flying Blue, has partnered with the multinational ridesharing company to give members the chance to earn Miles in their day-to-day lives.

For every €1 spent on Uber rides, members can collect one Mile. Double Miles are available for members who take over four Uber rides in a month. Explaining this offer, Uber gave the following example.

If you complete four rides via Uber between 1 and 15 August, you will earn two Miles per euro spent on all of your rides in the rest of August, September, October and until the end of November!

From today, all Flying Blue members will be able to collect Miles through Uber but it only applies to rides booked in cities across France and the Netherlands. To start collecting Miles, members only need to link their Uber and Flying Blue accounts, and Miles will be automatically credited.

Benjamin Lipsey, SVP Customer Loyalty and President of Flying Blue at Air France and KLM said:

“We are thrilled to join forces with Uber to offer our members additional ways to earn Miles in their daily lives. At Flying Blue, our goal is to provide tangible benefits that fit the lifestyle of our 24 million members worldwide. With Uber as our exclusive ride-hailing partner, we are reinforcing our commitment to accompany Air France and KLM customers before, during, and after they travel with us.”

Anabel Diaz, Vice President of Uber Mobility, EMEA said:

“We’re excited to be able to help our customers collect Flying Blue Miles on their Uber trips. So, whether you’re a local resident taking trips to work or visiting from overseas, every trip you take with Uber is helping you get somewhere a little more exotic with Air France and KLM.”

The partnership was announced alongside a series of new Uber features ahead of the Paris Olympics, with the ride hailing giant taking advantage of the imminent increase in traffic. Additional features include a new search feature, City Insights, and Uber Reserve to book rides in advance from any point within the city.

This “multiyear partnership with Flying Blue” could see engagement increase, giving people the option to build Miles in their everyday life. With participation in airline loyalty programmes notably lower in younger generations, airlines must begin to offer more relevant and engaging ways for members to earn Miles.
