Serving more than 900 destinations across 170 territories, oneworld is one of the world’s most expansive airline alliances. But how easy is it to drive harmony and consistency across 15 very different member airlines?
In an exclusive interview at World Aviation Festival 2025, oneworld CEO Nat Pieper joined us to discuss the latest developments in the alliance and how its strategy is evolving.
Every step of the customer experience, we want it to seem as if it’s all offered by one airline.
Pieper explains how digital transformation is key to putting this principle into practice. If a passenger is connecting with different airlines, they should be able to find all their tickets, lounge information, bag tracking, and more in one place regardless of which member they’re flying with.
Pieper is also keen to welcome members in new territories. Oman Air became a oneworld member earlier in 2025, consolidating the alliance’s position in the Middle East. In the interview, Pieper outlines his plans for future growth in China, India, and Latin America.
We can do really good things together even in places we don’t have a home airline.
oneworld’s launch of its sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) investment fund, in partnership with Breakthrough Energy Ventures (BEV), also hit the headlines earlier in September. Pieper believes this development represents the alliance’s core commitment to collaboration and holistic development.
[The fund] just speaks to bringing member airlines together to find a common solution. We can be so much more effective working together than any of them can be on their own.
