Wizz Air executive Michael Delehant confirmed this week that the budget carrier will trial ‘Wizz Class’ on select routes in December.
The ticket will give customers extra perks for a higher fare price. These include the ability to block the middle seat for extra space, priority boarding, and a carry-on bag in the overhead lockers. During the trial, passengers can book Wizz Class on select flights from London, Rome, Warsaw, Bucharest, and Budapesst.
Silvia Mosquera, the commercial officer at Wizz Air, said:
The roll-out of Wizz Class follows feedback from our growing number of business travellers who value low-cost travel options and prefer additional space during the flight.
The trial comes as Wizz Air seeks to expand their offering after a challenging few years of development. This summer, the airline reported a 42% decrease in net profits, in part due to engine issues forcing Wizz to ground a fifth of their aircraft. The decision to close their base in Abu Dhabi has also restricted the carrier’s growth ambitions in the Middle East.
LCC growth in Europe has cooled, with the collapse of the Icelandic PLAY Airlines in September further fuelling speculation that existing LCC models are no longer viable. In an October 2025 interview with Corriere della Sella, Ryanair Group CEO went so far as to say Wizz Air had ‘no future’ due to growth challenges.
Through the new Wizz Class ticket, Wizz hopes to evolve their business model and tap into the premiumisation trend. Neighbour-free booking has already become a popular add-on for long-haul carriers, while in the US low-cost airlines such as Southwest and JetBlue have launched similar hybrid low-cost/premium tickets to appeal to new demographics.
