Dalaman International Airport is located in the south-west of Turkey, one of the greenest areas of the country. At Aviation Festival Asia, Yiğit Laçin, the airport’s CEO, explained how this has translated into an ambitious carbon emission strategy featuring the world’s largest solar roof.

Speaking on the initiative, Laçin said:

“It is a significant project. For the time being, [the solar power project] produces 55 per cent of our annual energy needs, and now we are working on the phase two. At the end of 2025, our aim is to generate 100 per cent of our electricity needs. It is going to be challenging to meet but we already finalised the first phase and we have already taken some steps for the second phase so I’m pretty confident that by the end of 2025 we will be reaching our targets.”

During the interview, Laçin speaks more on the motivation behind the airport’s sustainability efforts. He also shared insights on how the airport is enhancing passenger experience through digital innovation and hospitality-focused design. Additionally, Laçin unpacked the the use of digital technology and its operational integration at the airport.
