At Aviation Festival Americas, Louie Orbeta, Manager, Cybersecurity and IT Infrastructure at Winnipeg Airports Authority joined to share practical insights into one of aviation’s most pressing challenges – cybersecurity.
Orbeta discussed the delicate balance between innovation and security in the face of cyberthreats, sharing the importance of a security-aware culture, risk-based approach, and effective proof of concept. Talking through a practical approach to the challenge, Orbeta noted:
“It starts with fostering a security aware culture. So this means that you educate your organisation on the effects of phishing, social engineering, malware, and ransomware.”
Contextualising the threat within the industry’s wider digitalisation journey, Orbeta emphasised the importance of future proofing. By implementing scalable, modular architectures and deploying solutions iteratively, airports can remain agile in their approach to this challenge long into the future.
In the five-minute interview, Orbeta also picked out key areas to invest in, from network segmentation to vulnerability management. Watch the full interview below for the details.
Here are five key takeaways from the conversation:
- Foster a security-aware culture.
- Adopt a risk-based approach.
- Implement scalable and modular architectures.
- Conduct iterative deployments.
- Prioritize key investment areas.
