Air Canada expands in-app bag tracking to European flights

Air Canada is rolling out in-app bag tracking across its European flights.

Passengers travelling to destinations such as London, Rome, Paris, or Copenhagen can now access the popular service, which has already been introduced on North American and Asia-Pacific flights.

Bag tracking is made simple and easy through Air Canada’s app, with passengers receiving automated notifications when their bag is checked in, loaded onto the plane, or passing through a connecting airport. As well as providing reassurance, the app can also tell customers which carousel their luggage will be loaded onto at the end of their journey.

If baggage is delayed, passengers are notified immediately. They can even file a delayed baggage report directly in the app, with the file number and updates supplied straight to their device.

According to SITA, the rate of mishandled baggage has fallen by 63% since 2007. Nevertheless, the volume of delayed or lost baggage continues to increase in line with passenger numbers.

Placing an Apple AirTag in checked luggage has become a viral ‘travel hack’ on social media, as passengers seek reassurance on the location of their bags. However, differing data laws mean not all countries allow AirTags to track within their airspace. In destinations such as South Korea, for example, location sharing will not be enabled, leaving passengers none the wiser as to the whereabouts of their bags.

Air Canada’s in-app feature gives its customers peace of mind by providing simple bag tracking free of charge.
