American Airlines have announced the rollout of nearly 20 dormakaba Argus Air XS electronic boarding gates across their Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) hub. Installation will begin at American’s Terminal C pier expansion following positive customer feedback from a November 2025 pilot.
Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden explained:
Boarding plays a key role in how customers experience the final moments before their flight, and electronic boarding gates will further elevate that experience, creating a more seamless and consistent process, This innovative change is part of a broader shift toward creating a more intuitive travel journey, one that blends technology and service to guide customers through each step with greater ease and confidence, delivering a modern, consistent experience wherever they travel with us.
American say the investment will streamline the journey from gate to aircraft by automating manual tasks, freeing up staff to provide more focused customer support. Additionally, automatically validating boarding passes will help regulate passenger flows to ensure timely boarding.
The gates form part of a multiyear modernisation of American’s DFW presence. Consolidating the passenger experience at their main hub is critical to the airline’s efforts to attract a more premium market and build greater profit margins. American’s Senior Vice President of DFW Hub Operations Jim Moses said:
After piloting the technology late last year and seeing positive feedback from both customers and team members, we’re excited to further incorporate electronic boarding gates at DFW. This is another step forward in creating a modern, seamless journey for customers, while keeping our people at the centre of the experience.
