Last week, Emirates announced a collaboration with the world’s most popular audio-streaming subscription service, Spotify.
Since the 6th November, passengers have been able to access Spotify’s curated playlists and podcasts through the airline’s personal inflight entertainment seatback system, ice.
Currently, the airline has a library of over 3,500 hours of music as well as podcasts in English, Portuguese, Tagalog and German. Next year, the airline will be adding even more languages to cater to their global customer base, including both Spanish and Hindi.
Ian Geller, VP of Business Development at Spotify said:
“At Spotify, we want to be everywhere our listeners are, so we’re thrilled to partner with Emirates to deliver best-in-class playlist and podcast entertainment for fliers around the world. From signature playlists to top podcasts, we’re bringing Emirates customers an inspiring, curated experience—at 30,000 feet and beyond.”
Aligning with the airline’s focus on personalisation, Emirates now offers playlist catering to a range of tastes with mixtapes including “RapCaviar Mixtape – featuring the latest hip-hop, the vibrant Viva Latino Mixtape, throwback All Out 90s Mixtape and the popular Arabic Classics Mixtape, and Jazz Classics Mixtape.”
Emirates is not the only airline adding Spotify to their inflight entertainment options. At the start of the year, Delta Air Lines collaborated with Spotify with a new collaborative series called ‘The Passport Sessions’ which bridges songwriters, producers, and artists from “twin cities” to create music and unpack its influence on different cultures.
