KLM have announced that passengers from all classes will be able to access free WiFi on European flights.
Beginning on 22 January, travellers can check emails, stream TV, or browse social media on their own devices. The service is available on half of KLM’s aircraft, with upgrades to the rest of the European fleet expected in the next few years. The investment responds to key passenger feedback, with KLM aiming to enhance the inflight experience on routes that do not provide seatback screens.
Stephanie Putzeist, VP Customer Experience at KLM, said:
We listen carefully to what our passengers value and free Internet has been on their wish list for some time. Through this step, we are making travel within Europe more personal and comfortable: everyone can plan their flight in their own way and stay connected. We are delighted to realise this now for our passengers
KLM is one of the first European carriers to offer unlimited WiFi access on short-haul routes. All passengers have to do to access the service is sign in or register as a Flying Blue member. Airlines such as Norwegian offer passengers 15 minutes of free low-bandwidth Internet, but to stay online for longer or stream entertainment a paid upgrade is needed.
