At World Aviation Festival, the airport CIO panel gathered to discuss steps that must be taken to prepare aviation for a paperless experience by 2030. The session featured speakers from across the industry ecosystem, gathering a range of perspectives for a collaboration-focused discussion. Panellists included Lennert L’Amie, Chief Information Officer, Royal Schiphol Group, Camille Tomlin, Deputy CTO, Philadelphia International Airport, Maurice Jenkins, Chief Innovation Officer, Miami International Airport, Tara Mulrooney, CTO and VP of Innovation, Edmonton International Airport, Jim Slevin, Regional Director, Inverid, Jeff Lennon, Vice President Strategic Sales & Global Partnerships, Vision-Box, and moderator Diane Sabatino, Acting Executive Assistant Commissioner, Office of Field Operations, US Customs and Border Protection.

Engaging in spirited discussion, the panel explored how to foster collaboration among industry partners, placing a special emphasis on data sharing. The participants shared their diverse and occassionally challenging views on the nuances of this in a post-Covid environment, all while unpacking the opportunities this opens up for the industry.

Taking a global lens to technology, the speakers also recognised the varying regional approaches to data management and the influence this has on the industry’s next steps. Here Camille noted that, “not all airports are created equal,” signalling the steps Philadelphia International Airport is taking to harden infrastructure in preparation for the future.

Debating themes of privacy hurdles, nurturing public trust, and the role of education in supporting uptake, the panellists worked to answer the question: Will the aviation industry achieve a paperless experience by 2030?
