At Aviation Festival Asia, Vivian Cheung, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) joined to explore innovation, sustainability, and the reshaping of an airport experience at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

During the conversation, Cheung explained how AAHK meticulously crafted an infrastructure to springboard innovation at the airport. Unpacking how this will be used to foster collaboration amongst stakeholders as well as advancing airport efficiency, Cheung touched on video analytics, biometrics, digital training, AI data collection technology, and more.

Additionally, while demonstrating the importance of efficiency enhancing strategies at HKIA, Cheung shared:

“In Hong Kong, spaces are limited, but the traffic is tremendous. When we designed the airport terminal back 25 years ago, our main terminal was only for 45 million passengers capacity. But before the pandemic, we handled 75 million in that terminal. We’re now exchanging time to for space. […] All this technology can greatly enhance not only efficiency but also the utilisation of space at the airport.

Looking closer at the role of technology in catalysing efficiency and sustainability, Cheung highlighted the ambitious target to become “one of the greenest airports in the world.” To hear more on this, watch the full interview below.
