Air India Express has officially joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
With membership of the organisation dependent upon achieving high safety and customer service standards, this recognition marks an important milestone for Air India Express’s development. A subsidiary of national carrier Air India, the airline operates a variety of low-cost routes across the Indian subcontinent and Asia.
IATA represents over 350 airlines from more than 120 countries around the world, with members accounting for around 80% of global air traffic. A key criteria for membership is passing the rigorous IATA Operational Safety Audit (IASA). Air India Express have been on the IOTA register since 2017, but have now graduated to become fully-fledged IATA members.
IATA’s Regional Vice President for Asia Pacific, Sheldon Hee, said that the announcement ‘broadens the perspectives that we can bring to the global issues affecting our industry’.
Aloke Singh, Managing Director, Air India Express, commented:
Becoming a part of the IATA family is a proud moment for us. It highlights our commitment to enhance our global standing, assuring our guests of world-class standards, and facilitates access to global partnerships.
As we continue to grow our footprint, IATA membership is an additional step taken by Air India Express to ensure that every journey is supported by the highest standards of reliability, safety, and convenience.
Air India Express has set the ambitious target of transporting 30 million passengers over the 2025-26 financial year, a 50% increase on the previous year’s numbers. In line with this goal, it continues to expand its route offerings, this week announcing new flights between Bengaluru and Bangkok from October 2025.
IATA membership recognises the low cost carrier’s (LCC’s) efforts to grow in accordance with international aviation standards, as well as its importance to regional connectivity.
Join us at Aviation Festival Asia 2026, where Air India Express CEO Aloke Singh will be discussing the future of LCC growth in APAC.
