Yesterday, at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2025), Apple unveiled its new operating systems, pointing out several key features that will be rolled out with iOS 26.
One promising update is the option for digital passport storage within users’ Apple Wallet. This will enable a TSA-approved, digitised version of a United States (US) passport to be securely kept on your phone. Although this ID can be used within the US for security screenings during domestic travel, it does not replace your physical passport for international travel.
“While not a replacement for your physical passport, Digital ID can be used for domestic travel at supported TSA checkpoints, in apps and in person where age and identity verification are required.”
As part of the announcement, Apple says it will be working with international travel and border agencies to extend the feature. The company will also reportedly be “refreshing digital boarding passes and improving the travel-centric features of its Wallet app.”
Back in April, Google announced digital ID as part of a new set of features for its Google Wallet. This included the option to create digital ID passes with a UK passport as well as the option to use a US-digital ID for TSA checkpoints for domestic travel at select airports across the US.
