Delta’s Digital ID has expanded to Salt Lake City, the sixth hub to adopt the biometric, facial matching technology. This adds SLC to a growing list, already including ATL, DTW, LAX, LGA and JFK.
For a week now, eligible Delta customers at SLC have had the option to engage with the “industry-leading touchless tech” which is making travel more seamless.
Delta Digital ID lets passengers pass through bag drop and/or security without having to produce a physical ID, using a biometric matching service between the airport and U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) that automates document checks.
To opt in, passengers must fit the following criteria, listed on the airline’s website:
- Be a TSA PreCheck® member
- Have passport information and a Known Traveller Number stored in their Delta profile
- Be a SkyMiles member
- Have the Fly Delta app
Highlighting the effectiveness of this tech, Delta revealed that Digital ID transactions are approximately 75 per cent faster than standard at bag drop and an estimated 60 per cent faster than standard TSA PreCheck customers at security.
Greg Forbes, Managing Director, Airport Experience said:
“Over the past year, as Digital ID has been in operation at some of our busiest hubs, customers have come to rely on the time-savings and convenience it provides. We’re thrilled for this technology to expand to a sixth hub, introducing a more streamlined, hands-free airport experience to a new group of customers.”
As the industry pushes to reduce airport bottlenecks, biometrics are taking a leading role in transforming the travel experience. But are passengers ready to trust airlines and airports with their biometric data?
