IndiGo launches Mumbai-London service as long-haul growth continues

Low-cost carrier (LCC) IndiGo has launched its first non-stop flights between Mumbai and London Heathrow, as its long-haul strategy accelerates.

The ten-hour flight to Heathrow joins the Indian airline’s growing roster of European destinations. Direct flights between India and Copenhagen, Amsterdam, and Manchester were all announced earlier this year.

On the Mumbai-Heathrow route, passengers can choose between two ticket classes, Economy and Indigo’s more premium Stretch offering. Seat-back entertainment, complimentary meals, and improved comfort features elevate IndiGo’s standard offering to service longer flights better.

Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers said:

This marks a defining moment in IndiGo’s journey towards becoming a truly global airline and reaffirms our commitment to connecting India to the world through efficient, consistent, and reliable service. With this launch, we aim to make travel between India and the UK more seamless, accessible and affordable for our customers.

IndiGo has risen to become the largest airline in India, serving over 90 domestic and 40 international destinations. Its expansion to Europe represents a significant threat to legacy carriers, as IndiGo can offer more competitive prices, as well as connections to an extensive portfolio of domestic airports.

IndiGo isn’t the only airline in APAC trying to become a long-haul competitor. Earlier this month, flydubai announced they were becoming a full-service carrier, with complimentary meals and entertainment for all passengers.
