American Airlines is debuting new app features that will assist travellers in the event of disruption. Flight rebooking, bag tracking, and vouchers will all be available in one place on the app or the airline’s website.
Flight status is made clear through a dedicated interface that provides passengers with the available options at their fingertips. If the customer qualifies for a hotel, a meal, or additional transport, a voucher will be available in-app at once. Additionally, integration with Lyft and Uber facilitates smooth journeys beyond the airport. American says the new features are ‘smarter, faster and more intuitive’, and will reduce confusion by providing a centralised source of information during disruption.
Heather Garboden, Chief Customer Officer at American Airlines, explained:
We strive to make every customer’s travel as smooth as possible, but we recognise things don’t always go to plan. When that happens, customers deserve transparent information and real-time tools to get their travel back on track.
Our new app enhancements are unlike anything else in the industry because they don’t just explain why travel was disrupted, they help customers take action. We’re giving travellers real-time options, real control and real peace of mind when they need it most. With personalised choices that fit individual needs, these tools empower customers to take charge of their journey.

American say that the app’s disruption management features will be enhanced further later in the year. More flexible rebooking choices, enhanced hotel, meal, and transport support, and self-service standby options are among the planned upgrades.
