As the industry takes a broader view of the passenger journey, intermodal travel has continued to grow. Earlier this month, Malaysia Airlines introduced MHrail, a new product facilitating seamless rail connections through a single booking. At the same time, the Malaysian flag carrier announced the expansion of its partnership with leading provider of air-rail intermodal solutions, AccessRail.
The airline now offers convenient air-rail connections in and out of Seoul and London Heathrow, encouraging passengers to continue their onward journey via train. Building on Malaysia Airlines’ existing rail route connections, the expansion allows customers to book Korail KTX train tickets to and from Incheon International Airport in South Korea and between London Heathrow and destinations along the East Coast via the London North Eastern Railway (LNER) and the West Coast with Avanti West Coast.
Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer of Airlines from Malaysia Aviation Group, said:
“We are delighted to offer our customers more options on flight to rail connections, ensuring a hassle-free travel experience for all. With the introduction of our new MHrail product, we provide passengers with a seamless avenue to purchase both flight and train tickets, making it convenient for our guests to explore neighbouring cities and enjoy onward connections upon arrival in London or Seoul through a single itinerary and ticket.”
Intermodal travel bridges two key areas of passenger expectations. The first, is an increasingly streamlined and interconnected digital journey. The second, is a growing emphasis on sustainability. By enabling passengers to book air and rail tickets in a single transaction, MHrail taps into this growing demand, offering passengers a convenient and sustainability-focused way to continue their journey.
