At World Aviation Festival, Tino Klaehne, Director Strategic Innovation, Lufthansa Innovation Hub (LIH) joined for a brief discussion about the technologies shaping the future of air travel. The LIH systematically explores digital developments and opportunities in Travel & Mobility Tech at an early stage, to quickly convert them into new business for Lufthansa.

Opening with a conversation around the potential of generative AI, Tino discussed the endless possibilities technology opens up for travel, explaining:

“There are a million things that are already [made] possible, and there are probably a billion more that we can’t even imagine.”

LIH’s Director Strategic Innovation later noted some of the bountiful applications within organisations but focused in on its significance for customer-facing tools including itineraries and bookings. Generative AI’s prominence in travel planning was further reiterated in a recent LIH newsletter, featuring an Oliver Wyman survey (below). During the interview, Tino touched on how LIH has leveraged new technology to revolutionise the booking experience with Swifty, an AI assistant for corporate travel which combines the planning and booking processes in the chat window.

The conversation also explored which challenges prevent the smooth integration of tech, as well as some key insights into the innovation trends that are set to shape the future. Watch the full interview below.
