Tony Fernandes, CEO Capital A – Keynote interview, “I think if you don’t use it, you’ll regret it.”

In a 20-minute keynote interview at Aviation Festival Asia, Capital A CEO Tony Fernandes discussed technology, data, and what it means to be digital.

During the discussion around tech, which focused predominantly on artificial intelligence (AI) and ChatGPT, the Capital A CEO asserted, “we are big believers in AI.” Through summarising their journey from chatbot AVA to ‘Ask Bo’, the potential of this technology was highlighted and although Fernandes warned AI must be continually improved, the Capital A CEO was resolute in saying “if you don’t use it, you’ll regret it.”

As the interview turned towards identifying key assets, data took centre stage. The low cost airline played a significant role in cultivating the data that has since been used to power a range of additional branches, provide more efficient systems, drive personalisation, and more. It is also interlinked with the company’s extensive relationship with digital, which Capital A has long held as a focus.

Answering the question, “what does it mean to be digital?” Fernandes discussed leveraging data and technology to create an ecosystem, touched on the nuances of the Super App, and highlighted digital’s position in creating new lines of revenue streams. Although there is still a long way to go on their digital journey, Fernandes reiterates how far they have come and the countless ways digital continues to benefit Capital A.
