With forecasts indicating that India will continue leading the air traffic growth in South Asia, the spotlight is on the strategies and transformation of its flag carrier, Air India.

At Aviation Festival Asia, Campbell Wilson, CEO & MD, Air India took to the stage to discuss delivering one of the biggest airline turnarounds in the history of aviation and sat with CEOs of IndiGo, Riyadh Air, and THAI Airways to answer the question: What is the future of the APAC industry?

In this five minute interview, Wilson unpacked the airline’s transformation roadmap and analysed its shifting strategy as we move further into 2024. Discussing the turning point this year, Wilson explained:

“There’s many irons in the fire, lots of things happening at once, lots of challenges, but also lots of progress. […] Thus far, it has been about building behind the scenes. Moving forward, it’s about what the customer sees.”

Discussing the burgeoning Indian market and its potential for the airline, Wilson highlighted the various opportunities for expansion and Air India’s strategic positioning to capitalise on these.

We have a massive opportunity to scale up international connectivity and connect India to more points around the world, not just because of India’s own growth rate […] but as a key component of a global supply chain. And then, of course, there’s the diaspora overseas and the geographic advantage that India has to act as a transit point between Africa and Asia, Asia and Europe, Europe and Australasia. So really, the world is our oyster.
