Garuda Indonesia have announced a three-year partnership with IFEC tech providers Moment. The airline will install 64 Flymingo Boxes across their aircraft, a proprietary wireless WiFi solution that allows passengers to stream entertainment to their own devices.
Two boxes are typically required per aircraft, and when charged have enough battery to support 12 to 14 hours of streaming across as many as 100 devices simultaneously. The solution enables airlines to enhance their inflight offering without resorting to the expensive installation of seatback screens or satellite connectivity equipment.
Tanguy Morel, CEO and co-founder of Moment, commented:
Our collaboration with Garuda Indonesia is a testament to the growing demand for flexible and high-performance wireless solutions. By supporting Garuda with 64 Flymingo Boxes, we are helping them rapidly expand their wireless IFE project, ensuring a modernised service that aligns with the expectations of today’s tech-savvy travellers who prefer using their own devices for a personalised viewing experience.
Moment’s content library on Flymingo is refreshed every two months to ensure passengers receive up-to-date and varied entertainment offerings. A partnership with Anuvu will bring the latest blockbuster releases to the platform, while the box also offers features not available on traditional seatback screens, including short vertical video dramas and e-reading.
Several APAC airlines have launched WiFi boxes in recent months. Air Cambodia and Sun PhuQuoc Airways both announced partnerships with AirFi, as carriers across the region try to keep up with evolving passenger demands without breaking the bank. Meanwhile, giants such as Emirates and Korean Air have invested in Starlink, the industry’s highest-performing connectivity solution but one that requires aircraft downtime and significant investment.
