Ole Orvér became CEO of the oneworld Alliance in April this year, having previously held leadership roles at Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), Qatar Airways, and Finnair. With a wealth of experience in commercial strategy, network planning, and fleet management, Orvér is uniquely placed to lead the alliance as it approaches its 30th anniversary.
At Aviation Festival Americas, we sat down with Orvér to discuss his priorities for oneworld going forward. He believes the two factors that make the alliance stand out are its loyalty offering and lounges, both of which cater to the ever-more powerful demographic of premium travellers.
As one of oneworld’s key strengths, Orvér is keen to grow the loyalty programme even further. He notes that these schemes have only become more powerful since the alliance was founded:
For example, American Airlines, IAG, Qantas: their loyalty programmes are just growing and growing and they were were not that big back in ’99 when we started our business. So I think we need to have a really good look at this.
Consistency is another priority for Orvér. With 15 airlines around the table, each operating across different regions and deploying their own business strategies, it’s all too easy for customers to have different experiences across one journey. This is especially true in a digital world where AI and other tech advances so quickly and adoption rates vary with each airline.
As oneworld, we’re a little bit slow on artificial intelligence. We’re letting the airlines work on this, and then we’ll see where it’s taking us. Then we’ll add the alliance level to it as we move on, probably later this year
oneworld serve as Official Alliance Partner for Aviation Festival Americas, offering member airlines and alliance leadership important visibility at the region’s leading aviation technology conference. Investing in new technological partners will be essential to achieving Orvér’s aims, making the Miami-based event an important theatre for conversation.
Orvér explains:
Visibility at Aviation Festival Americas is one thing, but we actually want to gain knowledge. We want to understand from people who are really deeply into technology to understand the opportunities that are out there. We want to sell better, we want to serve better.
