At the beginning of the week, Delta started rolling out free Wi-Fi on a selection of long-haul international routes. This is part of a broader plan to extend complementary Wi-Fi services to the majority of transatlantic flights by the end of summer, reflecting Delta’s commitment to enhancing the onboard experience for its passengers.

As of the 12th August, the airline offers free, streaming quality connectivity on approximately 700 aircraft, constituting 90 per cent of the airline’s domestic mainline fleet. This coverage highlights the airline’s leading role in in-flight connectivity as Delta responds to evolving passenger expectations.

Looking forward, the airline is deploying free Wi-Fi across Viasat-equipped widebody aircraft on a “route-by-route” basis. The airline shared a more detailed look at its timeline for the remainder of the roll out, see below,

The task ahead is both complex and ambitious, as highlighted by Ranjan Goswami, Delta’s SVP – Customer Experience Design:

“As we continue to roll out fast, free Wi-Fi and the in-flight experiences it powers, we’re able to serve customers traveling both domestically and internationally in new, in-the-moment ways. The scale at which we’re bringing free Wi-Fi to customers is unmatched in the airline industry, and it’s a testament to the incredible efforts of Delta teams across the business that have expertly navigated an extremely complex rollout.”

Delta’s free Wi-Fi initiative shows significant progress in the industry’s push to the bridge the gap between connectivity on the ground and in the skies.
