Recently, Thailand’s Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, pledged to build the country into a “key aviation hub in the Asia-Pacific region.” The government announced plans for airport transformations and the strengthening of collaboration with airlines, tourism agencies, and hotels to grow the sector. At Aviation Festival Asia, Chai Eamsiri, CEO, Thai Airways, joined for a brief interview, providing insight into how these ambitions translate into strategy for the country’s flag carrier.

During the conversation, Eamsiri outlined the airline’s commercial transformation strategies and its ambitious plans for the future. Highlighting Bangkok’s important role as a hub, Eamsiri noted a shift in Thai Airways’ priorities:

“Our strategy is now focusing more on the connecting passenger […] According to the data, right now point to point represents almost 80 per cent of our passengers, the rest, less than 20 per cent, is connecting passengers. [This strategy] coincides with the government policy to make Bangkok a hub and Thai Airways is a key player on that road.”

Expanding on the airline’s changing priorities, Eamsiri discussed fleet expansion, new markets, and strategic direction, demonstrating optimism for the future of the flag carrier. Watch the full interview below.
