Etihad Airways have announced a new platform to incorporate flights and hotel booking.
Etihad Escapes will allow customers to plan their journey in one place, facilitating more seamless travel experiences. Available on Etihad.com from October, the Abu Dhabi airline say the platform will expand to encompass additional travel services and ultimately create a one-stop-shop for passenger booking.
Antonoaldo Neves, Etihad’s CEO, commented:
Our guests already choose Etihad to take them to some of the world’s most exciting destinations. With Etihad Escapes, we want to make the rest of their journey just as easy. This is about building a much deeper relationship with our guests beyond the flight. Over time, Etihad Escapes will bring together flights, hotels, loyalty and other travel experiences in one place, creating a simpler and more personalised way to travel.
The platform utilised the airline’s own capabilities, as well as those of partners. Expedia Group B2B are powering the hotel inventory, while Juniper Travel Technology support the technological infrastructure.
Roughly 70% of travellers arriving at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport are only transiting through to onward destinations, compared with 45% at Dubai International down the road. Abu Dhabi are currently trying to increase the role tourism plays in their economy, targeting 39.3 million visitors by 2030.
Etihad say the Escapes platform will support the emirate as it seeks a share of the US$2.7 trillion global holiday market. The airlines has had a difficult year so far, with conflict in the Middle East grounding almost all flights in February and denting the region’s reputation as a secure aviation hub.
