Enhancing Cairo International Airport’s position: Changi Airports International (CAI) signs two agreements with Cairo Airport Company
On Thursday, Changi Airports International (CAI), a leading consultant, manager, and investor in the global aviation market, signed two agreements with Cairo Airport Company to jointly develop Cairo International Airport.
As one of the busiest airports in Africa by passenger and cargo volumes, Cairo International Airport holds a key strategic position and the agreement with CAI seeks to enhance this overall standing. The consultancy agreements signed were as follows:
- Passenger focused – implementing impactful solutions to improve passenger experience at Cairo International Airport.
- Feasibility study for the development of Cairo Cargo City – a new area at Cairo International Airport earmarked for cargo and logistics development.
Last year, the state announced its mission to increase exports to $100 billion annually, as part of its strategy to turn Egypt into a logistics hub for goods; elevating ports and improving their connections to airports were additional parts of this drive. As one of the busiest airports in Africa by cargo volumes, Cairo International Airport is crucial in meeting this goal.
Additionally, since the end of 2021, Egypt has been running a three-year international promotion campaign for tourism, promoting the country as offering visitors a “unique experience.” in 2022, it was estimated Cairo International Airport received around 20 million passengers and on 25 April 2023, the airport set a new traffic record with the highest rates of air traffic operations and travel since the airports establishment, reaching 612 flights and 82,000 passengers over the course of the day. With this growing traffic, solutions designed to elevate the passenger experience are important not only for the convenience of travellers but also to cement economic and reputational advantages to a country seeking to enhance its position as a tourist destination.
Eugene Gan, Chief Executive Officer of CAI, said:
“We seek to unlock Cairo Airport’s tremendous potential for growth, leveraging on its status as one of the busiest airports in Africa by passenger and cargo volumes. We also look forward to not only providing impactful solutions in the short term, but to a longer-term partnership with Cairo Airport Company.”
